Travel Diaries: Little Town Igatpuri

Tuesday, 11 June 2013

Igatpuri, a little town situated between Mumbai and Nashik is surrounded by mountains, ghats & waterfalls. This town can be reached by road or most convinient, by the Bhagalpur Express or Amritsar Expres starting from Lokmanyatilak Tilak Terminus in Mumbai. With tickets starting from Rs 130, you can reach Igatpuri in just 2.5 hrs.
Best for a short getaway, Igatpuri gives you the hill station feeling if you visit during Winter. Some of its popular attractions are:
  • Bhatsa River Valley
  • Arthur Lake
  • Kalsubai Peak
  • Amruteshwar Temple
  • Dhamma Giri Meditation Centre
  • Ghatandevi Temple
  • Tringalwadi Fort
  • Camel Valley
The Dhamma Giri Meditation Centre is a must visit for all those visiting Igatpuri. If you are in no mood to visit these places. You can simply sit back and relax. Get out your Map and explore the town yourself. Simply take a long drive around the town or sleep on the grass surrounded by mountains (did that) The sight is truely out of this world. You can also place your tent near the lake side and have lunch under the sky. Hire a cycle or bike and take a ride. You can also gorge on the local street food.

If you are on a budget, make sure you research before going and find out the room tarrifs in advance as posh hotels on the way are pretty expensive. There are many resorts too where you can spend the day. The localites are pretty helpful and will direct you in finding your way. Also, you can join the Langar in the famous Gurudwara. This food is freshly prepared and served hot to all the devotees who visit. Also, the serene and peaceful Sacred Heart Church is a must Visit. Igatpuri is also famous for its waterfalls, perhaps if you go at the right time.

Winter is the best time to visit as the pleasant cold weather makes this place even more beautiful & peaceful. Create a memory by having a bonfire get together and end it with a sing-song and dance session around the fire. While visiting during the rains, you can enjoy the gushing waterfalls.
Travel on your own or simply take a pre planned tour, if you are anywhere near Maharastra, Igatpuri is a must visit for the weekend. :)

Super Fun At Kankaria Lake

Thursday, 20 December 2012

Kankaria Lake is one of the biggest lakes in Ahmedabad. A lakefront was developed around it which has many public attractions like zoo, toy train, kids city, balloon safari, water rides and water park, food stalls and entertainment facilities. Visiting it was such a experience. you'd be shocked to see the amount of visitors it gets daily.

The Toy train station was filled with so many passengers that it felt like a real station filled with both kids as well as adults and the joy and excitement on their faces was that of a child. The ride took them back to their childhood memories and everyone seemed to be enjoying it while the train took the entire circle around kankaria.

Priced very reasonable was the balloon safari that took you to a height where you could see the entire place so beautiful and amazing. It really feels like the top of the world

The thrilling and adventurous motorboat ride was the cherry on the cake and super fun.

Apart from the tasty food n snacks available at the food stalls there's also atv motor bike rides and a zoo as well as other entertainment and joy rides. Just to sit and look at the gleaming shimmery water is so soothing and calming. A day at kankaria will be something you should look foward to visiting.hmm.. no wonder the people in Ahmadabad are so proud of having Kankaria in their city.

 AHMADABAD

Visiting the largest city and former capital of Gujarat had a charm of its own. Surrounded by some of its heritage and remains of old monuments and within the city, the growing  modernized infrastructure gives this city a different feel of its own. The marketplace within the old city was a different experience. Apart from getting the best bargains on Indian printed bed linens and ethnic wear, the market was surrounded with historical heritages and walking through them gives you the true feeling of being in Ahmadabad.
